With the development of computers and the Internet people have started to argue if libraries continue to exist at all. Is it possible that they will disappear?
To my mind, public libraries will definetly survive, at least the central ones. First of all, there are a lot of rare und unique documents and manuscripts which cannot be copied and need to be preserved carefully. More than that, libraries are an essetial part of scientific research especially for people who need to work with the original sources.
However, there are those who say that libraries will soon be forgotten. Firstly, it is much more convinient to look for information in the Internet. Secondly, they argue that young people do not use libraries and prefer more progressive means of getting information.
Nevertheless, I cannot find these arguments convincing enough. We can lose hours trying to find useful informationg among all garbage in the Internet and yet find nothing. Moreover, modern libraries have computers, intuitive electronic catalogues and provide books, resources, professional help and calm working atmospere that makes them more and more popular with students.
To conclude, I can say that public libraries will definetly continue to exist becoming more convinient, better equipped and providing more useful services for their visitors.
