Nowadays there is a big argument between people who say that zoos should be in every city and those who do not agree with this point of view.
Personally I consider, that building zoos in every city is useless. First of all, not every city has special equipped facilities, territory and enough money to keep a zoo. More than that, specially traned staff is needed for veterinary help, feeding and professional care and not every city or town can organize that. Finally, cities are situated in different climate zones, so it will be extremely hard to recreate suitable conditions for some species of animals.
However, some people still argue that a zoo brings money to government by attracting tourists and educating local citizens. Moreover, we can create zoos for local species of animals helping to maintain their population in the region.
Nevertheless, I doubt that these arguments can be convincing. Firstly, a zoo is not a place of interest to visit every day, so profits from it will be unstable, and yet animals will demand expensive care every day. As for local animals, I strongly disagree that it is a good idea to keep them in captivity. I think we should create special wildlife reserves for them.
To conclude, I can say that it is up to the governemnt of every city to decide whether to keep a zoo in their region or not, but I believe there are more useful ways of spending money.
